In 2008, founding Music Alliance director Lisa Robertson announced her resignation from the board of directors, due to relocating out of Wallowa County. Robertson, who teaches violin and viola at Eastern Oregon University, was also the founder of the long-running Wallowa Lake Chamber Music Festival, which was eventually adopted by the Music Alliance. The music festival had been scaled down in its later years, and finally discontinued in 2007, but in her generosity Robertson asked that the remaining funds from the Chamber Music Festival be used by the Music Alliance to start a grant and scholarship fund for student musicians seeking financial assistance in furthering their music education. The Music Alliance board of directors voted to implement a scholarship program, designating ten percent of contributed income to the scholarship fund.
